Tests revealed serious abnormalities in her stomach and intestines. The pain continued to worsen with no alleviation. Medical treatment failed to relieve her suffering until Rhoda instructed Rita to make a novena to St. Therese of Lisieux, imploring the Lord to heal her stomach ailment.  On the ninth day Rita's stomach was completely healed.
